Is the 12V battery to blame?

I've seen Lightning 12V battery mentioned a bunch and while I know where it is, I'm a bit confused on the why. What does it actually do in our electric trucks? And how can I tell if a weird electrical problem might be related to it? Any tips on what to watch out for with the 12V battery would be super helpful.

The 12V battery is actually a big deal in the Lightning (and all EVs, really). Even though the truck has a huge high-voltage battery, the 12V system still runs a lot of essential electronics, things like door locks, infotainment, lighting, and even booting up the high-voltage battery itself. If you’re having weird electrical issues, like screens flickering, the truck not waking up, or random errors, it could be a weak 12V battery. A lot of Lightning owners have had premature 12V failures, so it’s worth keeping an eye on. If your truck randomly won’t start, that’s usually the first sign.

Good idea with this post! I was wondering why there is a separate 12V battery required for these on an electric vehicle.Maybe someone could give a good explanation.

Think of it like a backup system for the smaller, essential systems like the alarm and computer that help start the truck. If it dies, you might get some weird glitches or, worse, the truck won’t even wake up. Catch it early, and it’s a super easy fix, but if it totally dies, you’re looking at a truck that won’t start at all.

The 12V system powers all the low-voltage electronics, like lights and the infotainment. If it's failing, you'll see weird glitches. Definitely worth checking if you're having electrical issues.
