I'm installing an 80-amp EV charger in my new house. I need to run a 60-foot wire indoors. What type of 3 AWG wire should I use?

Yeah, definitely use copper wire. The instructions say to use 3 AWG for the hot wires and 6 AWG for the ground.

Also, the wires coming out of the charger get pretty warm when it's charging, so I wouldn't risk using aluminum.

For your 80-amp EV charger, go with 3 AWG THHN wire for indoor use. It’s rated for high temps and works well for residential installs.

For a 60-foot indoor run with an 80-amp charger, use copper 3 AWG wire with THHN insulation. Always consult a licensed electrician to ensure you’re following local codes.

FYI, it's a 100amps circuit and breaker. The charger maxes out at 80 amps, or 19.2 kilowatts, on that circuit. My electrician told me that LOL.
