I'm going to install a new electrical outlet for my truck. I need to make sure it's safe and powerful enough. I'm not sure how to limit the amount of power it uses, but I'm planning to install a 100 amp copper line from the panel to the charging station. Does anyone have any advice?

Yeah, just make sure your circuit breaker and panel can support the new outlet. I hope you install a dedicated 100-amp circuit breaker in your panel for the outlet. In case of an overload, it will trip. This helps limit the amount of power the outlet can draw and prevent electrical hazards. And of course, installing a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) for safety. Good job and good luck!

I’d just be careful about installing a 100 amp line without knowing the power requirements for your charger. It might be overkill, and you’ll want to make sure the breaker and wiring are properly rated to handle the load safely.

100 amps is solid! If you’re running that much power, just make sure the breaker and wiring are properly rated for continuous load, EV chargers usually recommend 80% capacity for safety, so a 100-amp circuit would max around 80 amps continuous. Also, check if your charger has adjustable power settings in case you want to dial it back.

Definitely not normal. If you've set it to 80%, it should stop there. Could be a software bug, a problem with the charger's communication, or even an issue with the car's battery management system. I'd check for any software updates for the car, and if that doesn't fix it, you'll probably need to get it checked by a dealer.
