Hey, everyone!

I have heard that pre-conditioning your EV battery can help with range. The Energy tab -> Departure Times widget seems to handle this now. Quick question, though: does using Remote Start or the fan button in the app also pre-condition the battery, or is it just for cabin temperature?

You’re right about pre-conditioning, it can boost range by making sure the battery is at its optimal temperature before you hit the road, which is especially useful in cold climates. The Departure Times feature pre-conditions both the battery and cabin, but Remote Start and the fan button in the app usually only handle the cabin temperature. If you want to ensure the battery is warmed up and maximizing range is your goal, setting a Departure Time is the way to go.

I could be off, but I don’t really see preconditioning the battery as a big deal in summer. For me, it’s more about getting the cabin nice and toasty before I get in. But this winter? Preconditioning is definitely making a difference!

Basically, the car only warms up the battery if it's plugged into the wall and you tell it when you're leaving.

Using the app just turns on the AC or heat, it doesn't warm up the battery.

You only really need to do this when it's cold out anyway.

I understand now. Thanks.
