Just recently picked up a Lariat ER, and I'm enjoying learning the quirks of charging with the Ford Mobile Charger and the Emporia Charger. I also have the Emporia Vue monitoring system, which has been helpful to watch the charging behavior in real time.

I've noticed some odd fluctuations in the charge rate, though. For example, if I set the Emporia charger to 30 or 32 amps, I’ll see fluctuations in power draw by about 700-800 watts. But if I set it to 40 or 25 amps, the charging remains steady. This fluctuation shows up right away, so I don’t think it’s a heat-related issue.

What’s interesting is that the Ford Mobile Charger (FMC) shows an even more erratic pattern and sometimes smooths out after about 30-40 minutes. The Emporia charger has a more regular fluctuation pattern, almost like a “gear” effect.

Has anyone else noticed something like this with their setup? Do you think it’s anything to worry about, or just normal behavior?

I've noticed similar fluctuations, setting the Emporia charger at 40 amps keeps things steady for me too, but lower amps vary more.
