Battery performance on my road trip

I just got back from a road trip to see the grandkids, and the battery performance wasn’t great. It was about 20°F outside with strong headwinds, and I got only 1.5m/kWh even after charging up to 100% and pre-conditioning the cabin. On the way back, after a fast charge, my efficiency jumped to 2.0m/kWh. Am I missing something in pre-conditioning, or does the fast charge help wake the battery up? I don't have any clue why

While the FordPass app's climate feature warms the cabin, only a lvl 2 charger and a scheduled departure will successfully precondition the battery before driving.
