Cooling Down Before Plugging In?

Heard it's a good idea to wait a couple of hours (like 2 or more) after shutting down your EV before plugging it in to charge. Supposedly, it helps the battery cool down and keeps it from degrading too fast. Is this true, esp when it’s blazing hot outside?

I’ve been poking around the app and Sync4, but can’t find any options to set a delay for charging.
Is there any solid data showing that charging a hot battery messes with its lifespan?
And does the Lightning software automatically dial down the amps to protect the battery when it’s feeling the heat?
